We can all agree that BMW E30 is one of the most iconic compact sedan that we all admires. Since been introduced in 1980s, the design of the overalls, the headlights, and the bodyline hooked the eye of all of the enthusiasts, especially BMWs in the 1980s to 1990s, and even until now. That boxy soap box still getting the interest of a young enthusiast to the elderly.
Bowo is one of them. As one of his coworker back in 2015 at one of the most sensational e-commerce known to Indonesian, I never know that Bowo was interested in BMWs. All I know that he like his vespa, coding, and alcohol! Haha!
But around the Covid19 pandemic, Bowo began to asked about BMW to me, longing to have either E30 or E39. But he liked E30 more, and began to look one on Facebook Marketplace. Then this black nicely looking E30 appears.
When we checked the condition of the car, Bowo was quite hooked. Why? We can see that the car is already equipped with M-Tech II bodykits, and neat interior. The next homework was to change the fake rims, repair the engine, and brakes. So, he purchased the car that day, and sadly we have to tow the car home due to the brake lock. Funny that we almost caught the car on fire while driving home.
For completing the restoration and build, I recommends him to WASIM Motor BSD, a workshop that quite well known to BMW Owners and quite known for swapping engines for E30s, especially from M40 to M60 V8 B30. For around a year, I see Bowo began to complete his dream car. From replacing the old seats to Recaros, restoring the interiors and their tiny bits, replacing the wheels to Style 5S 16 inch, and including refreshing the M40 engines.
But on one afternoon, while I’m visiting WASIM Motor and Bowo was there, there’s a V8 engine that being build, and it was for one of the owner of WASIM Motor, and it seems that he got interested on having a V8 engine into his car, and their project continues.
Then come to this day when a V8 M60 B30 engine successfully swapped inside of Bowo’s E30.
As you can see, not just the engine, the dashboard even came from BMW E34, and the suspension were from E36 and E46 if I’m not mistaken.
If you’re asking why does he interested in swapping his BMW E30 for V8? Well, wait until you can see it roars.
